The Positron8 BASIC compiler, formerly known as the Proton Compiler, was written with simplicity and flexibility in mind. Using BASIC, which is almost certainly the easiest programming language around, you can now produce extremely powerful applications for your PICmicroâ„¢ without having to learn the relative complexity of assembler, or wade through the gibberish that can be C and C++. Being an assembler programmer at heart, I set out to make the Positron8 compiler produce very fast and very compact assembler code. So even the smaller microcontrollers are capable of remarkable things with it. The Positron8 compiler allows a few devices to be used without requiring registration, in a trial version. The supported Free devices are: Free Standard 14-bit core Devices: PIC16F84, PIC16F628, PIC16F628A, PIC16F877, PIC16F877A Free Enhanced 14-bit core Devices: PIC12LF1552, PIC16F1826. Free 18F devices: PIC18F25K20, PIC18F45K20.
